About University :The College was established in year 1847. This is the first engineering college in the British Empire.After 7 years in 1854 college was renamed as The Thomason College of Civil Engineering. It was decleared as a University under Act No. IX of 1948 of the United Province by name University of Roorkee. In sepetember 2001 it was decleared as INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGEY (IIT) Roorkee.

Campus : The campus is spread in an area of 360 acrs (1.5 km²). Roorkee is located at the foot hills of the Himalayan.This is very near to tourist place Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun and Mussorie.
Academics :The Institute offers Bachelor degree courses in 10 disciplines of Engineering and Architecture and Postgraduate degrees in 55 disciplines of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Architecture and Planning.
